Charlie Ford Meets Secret Agent Man ~
Book Review
Charlie (Charlene) Ford is a young woman
who cannot let go of her past and is terrified
to reveal her life to her family – yet Charlie
is one of the most courageous young
women readers will have the pleasure of
meeting. She is a true modern woman with
emotional baggage, stiff language and
enough determination to sign on for 8 years
in the Special Forces unit Sector 72G and
take on a Masters Degree in Criminal
Justice. Charlie is gainfully employed as a
nanny, which funds the strategic goals she
has in place. Most of the time, being a
nanny is a fine choice of employment,
however Charlie’s endured too many
judgmental parents and is starting to feel
less than thrilled about her work.
Thankfully, this is the last nanny job she will
have to take - if all goes as planned, at
least. Bella (Annabelle) is the teenage
daughter of two very famous Hollywood
personas and the granddaughter of a
highly politically connected man who has
upset some very powerful people. Bella
struggles to find balance between the
disgust and love she harbors for her
mother, while secretly hoping her parents
can reunite, and is starving for her father’s
attention. Her anger and teenage
assumptions keeps a wall between herself
and others. When Charlie arrives, Bella is
less than pleased. Ironically, Bella’s father
is a famous actor and has taken on a new
film assignment that will be shot in Africa –
the very country Charlie had hoped to never
see again. On route to the filming location,
unidentified hijackers take over the tiny
decrepit plane and begin eliminating a few
of the passengers. The unexpected
rescuer, Duane, is not what he appears to
be and he is not thrilled that he was forced
to divert from his assignment due to the
hijacking. Charlie cannot trust this man, but
since she depends on him for their safety at
the moment, she tries to make the best of a
difficult situation. Accidents, errors, death,
several kidnapping and hijacking scenes
and the rescue of yet another mysterious
man make this high-paced thriller hard to
put down. I could have sat and read all day
– in fact, I nearly did. Author JD Tynan has
created a solid story line with humorous
undertones in her recent novel Charlie
Ford Meets Secret Agent Man. The sexual
tension between Duane (or whatever his
name is) and Charlie was well done and will
have romance enthusiasts enthralled. I
particularly enjoyed Charlie’s character
development scenes where she discovers
herself and finds peace in her inner world
and I found myself envying the bond
between Charlie and Bella.

Frequently Asked Questions:
1. When did you start writing?
J.D. In April of 2004, I woke up from a dream in which I was writing a novel about my time as a
nanny. The next morning, I got up and started writing. I finished my first novel in 6 weeks, had a
literary agent two months after that and a two book contract less than a year later. I have not
stopped writing and the ideas just keep on coming.
2. Who are your inspirations and where do your stories come from?
J.D. I love Janet Evanovich, Jennifer Crusie, Tom Clancy and Linda Howard. I just got hooked on Iris
Johansen too. She's fantastic. My stories are unique and are just as much of a surprise to me as
they are to my readers. I write without outlines or formulas. Whatever I come up with at the time is
what ends up on my computer screen. It makes it exciting for me!
3. What are you plans for the future? Any projects in the works?
J.D. I just signed with a second publisher, so now it's time to edit and get more of my manuscripts
ready for publication. Right now, I am working on the third Charlie Ford Adventure and a couple
other fun romantic comedies too.
4. Speaking of nannies, this is your second novel...both having to do with nannies? Do you use
your experience back east in your books?
J.D. Absolutely...well, let's just say it's a nice starting point. I have some great experiences that
would make great stories, but my characters are most definitely not ME! I like to use some familiar
places and situations, but it's all fiction.
5. Did you read 'The Nanny Diaries' and if so, what did you think?
J.D. It was okay. I think I expected too much, so when I read it, I was disappointed. Plus it was about
NY nannies and not Connecticut nannies. I think there's a huge difference in culture. It was also a
little dull for me. I like hard boiled. I wanted to know how the nanny really felt...not sugar coated with
candy sprinkles. Tell it like it is, is my motto.
6. Book signings. Love 'em or leave 'em?
J.D. Honestly, love them, but they make me very nervous. I always have to bring my gang of friends
and family for support. So far, I've been incredibly lucky and have had some great success at all my
signings.
7. You currently don't have an agent. Is that by choice?
J.D. Funny story about that. Sure I would love to have a big, fast producing NY agent who would
shower me with contracts, but I also love to be in control. Giving up my artistic freedom in the written
word would be painful for me. By having ME in control, I can make those choices and having a
smaller, independent publisher, I feel more in control of my own writing and my career. I'd love to
work for two publishers and have 2 books out a year. That means more writing, more promoting
and more work, but it's all for the fans. I want to have FANS!
8. If You're books were movies, who would star in them?
J.D. Ohhh. I love that fantasy. Jill 9 would star Mark Wahlberg as Ian. Jill would be played by Ashley
Judd. Elias would have to be a tall, blonde nobody with a great body! Like Fabio, only younger!
Charlie Ford --tough one, but my first choice is Cameron Diaz, followed by Amanda Peet. Jack
(Secret Agent Man) could be Hugh Jackman, but he's hard for me to put a face on. I made him. He's
perfect. He's all mine!
9. Speaking of perfect men, how do you create the "perfect man"?
J.D. You start at the top. Hair color. What do you like? I, personally, have a thing for dark hair.
Blondes don't appeal to me, you can blame my high school boyfriend for that! (HA) Choose your
eye color and what his gaze does to your stomach and other parts of your anatomy. Then chisel his
body as if it were a work of art. Physical perfection is not the point. It just has to appeal to you (the
creator). Then you add a little personality and perhaps some bad attitude and there you have it.
The point is that even non-good looking men can be incredibly sexy! Think Sexy-ugly sometimes.
You hate them, you love them. They're MEN!!
10. What's the most important thing you want to leave with your readers?
J.D. I want them entertained. I want them coming back for more. Or telling me that they couldn't get
enough. I want to create characters that everyone thinks about long after the story is over. And I
never ever want the reader to get bored. The minute I get bored writing is the minute I will QUIT!!
